He was back again.
The guy in the trench coat and tie. That's all he ever wore. A trench coat, a tie, and a suit every time.
He came into the cafe every now and then, and ordered coffee. Just coffee.
And he always sat at the same table by the window. And he'd just sit there, drinking his coffee watching the world go by.
"Hey, your back." you say as you walk up to the table to take his order. "Um yes, yes I am" He says in his deep gravely voice that makes your knees go weak. "So you want the usual?" you ask. "The usual what?" he looks at you confused "Coffee. You usually get coffee. Hence the usual part." "Oh, yes. I will have the usual." He says blushing slightly, causing you to blush.
So you leave to go get the coffee, and when you come back he is absently staring out the window.
"Anything interesting?" you ask jokingly. "Well, there is a dog urinating on a fire hydrant, and there are two men kissing in that alleyway. And then there is that man standing under a sign that clearly states he should not be standing there. But I suppose it all depends on what you consider interesting." he states very seriously. You kind of just stood there for a moment, registering what he said. Trying to decide if he was making some kind of joke or not. "Um..ok."you say deciding just to let it slide. "So here's your coffee, and can I get you anything else?" you ask knowing the answer. "No just the coffee is fine." Is his reply. "Ok then, let me know if you need anything else." He nods, and you walk away. Mentally kicking yourself, for not having the guts to ask him out, again.
He sat there for the best of an hour. Just sitting and staring. He never asked for anything else, as usual. Just lost in his own thoughts.
"I'm going to do it." you say to yourself. "I'm going to go over and talk to him." You take a deep breath and start towards him, and then instantly turn back around saying. "I can't do this. I just can't do this."
*huuuuuuh* comes the exasperated sigh from next to you. "Just go talk to him already! Ask him out." Molly your co-worker and friend had watched your last several failed attempts at getting up the nerve to go talk to him. And now she'd decided she'd had enough. "If you don't go over there I'm going to push you." seeing the obvious disbelief on your face, she spun you around and literally pushed you towards him.
Nearly running into the table, you stop just in time to not crash into him.
"Oh, hi." you say as casually as you can, trying to brush off the blunder. "So hey, it's Cas right?" He opens his mouth as if to correct you, but then seems to decide otherwise and lets out the breath. "Yes that is my name." he says. "So Cas, I was just wondering-and it's totally ok if you say no- if you wanted to go see a movie or something...." you let the sentence hang. "With me, I mean." You added lamely. He looked at you puzzled for a moment, and then seemed to catch on to what you meant. "Oh you mean a date, um." He was becoming flustered. "I-I'm sorry but-" He was looking anywhere but you. He started saying something else, but you didn't hear anything after that knowing where it was headed. "No it's ok, it was a-a stupid question anyway." You said turning to leave. "Wait." he said. Your heart was breaking. "No really it's ok, you don't have to worry about it." you called, just trying not to let him see your face turn red.
"Smooth." you thought to yourself. "Real smooth. You looked like a complete idiot. Of course he wouldn't go out with, why would he." You thought as you went out the back door of the cafe, sinking into the pit of self loathing that came from rejection. You leaned up against the wall, just trying not to let out the few tears that were pressing against your eyes. You stood there continuing to mentally hurl self-abuse at yourself, when he seemed to appear out of nowhere. "Where did you-? you started to say "You know, you didn't let me finish." he cut you off. "You didn't need to, I know what you were going to say." you said staring at your feet, refusing to meet those brilliant blue eyes. "No you don't." He said. "Yes I do, and it's ok. You don't have to explain yourself to me. I get it, and you don't have to pity me either. I really don't-" Then your rant is cut short by his lips pressing against yours. It was soft and sweet, but passionate at the same time. After several minutes he pulls away, leaving you completely stunned.
"I would love to go on a date with you." he says in low voice. "Ok." you reply hoarsely. You clear your throat regaining your composure, then you say "Fine, but only on one condition." He looks at you with that confused look that you've decided you love, and you say. "I get to do this again." Then you put your hand on the back of his head-running your hand through his hair-and crash his lips onto yours once more. Savoring the slight hint of coffee.
